Shapes started as a design company, producing hi tech sports wear. In 1997 Shapes was asked to develop a new vest that was longer than traditional vests. This is how Shapes started working on ballistic vests. In 2000 the industrial designer and founder of Shapes, Kwame Dako, patented the new design.

The design was inspired by insects. Some insects have soft insides and hard moveable segments on the outside. The basis on wich the vest is designed comes through studying these insects. Since the initial design the vests has evolved and improved through continuous tests, and we are always looking to further develop the vest based on our research and user feedback.
